MIRWAVES is a university spin-off developing advanced photonic and microwave technologies, combining scientific expertise, custom engineering and experimental validation to address industrial and high-performance applications.
Who are we?
MIRWAVES brings together expertise in photonics, fiber optics, microwaves and applied electromagnetics. We work across the full development process – from feasibility and modelling to device design, prototyping and characterization – including the experimental validation of components and systems developed by our customers.
Our background originates from research at the Politecnico di Bari in electromagnetic propagation, wave–matter interaction, optical fiber technologies, antennas and microwave systems. MIRWAVES translates this expertise into custom solutions for industry and technology partners. The official Politecnico di Bari documentation identifies MIRWAVES as an academic spin-off focused on the study, prototyping and characterization of innovative fiber-optic and microwave systems.

Francesco Anelli is a researcher in electromagnetic fields at Politecnico di Bari. His expertise spans the design, fabrication and characterization of antennas and optical-fiber components, with particular research activity in metasurface-based antennas and fiber technologies for mid-infrared applications.
Antonella Maria Loconsole
Chief Technology Officer — CTO
Antonella Maria Loconsole is a researcher in electromagnetic fields at Politecnico di Bari. Her expertise includes SIW antennas, microwave applicators for medical applications, and optical-fiber lasers and amplifiers, providing a strong link between MIRWAVES’ microwave and photonic technologies.
Francesco Prudenzano
Chief Research Officer — CRO
Francesco Prudenzano is Full Professor of Electromagnetic Fields at Politecnico di Bari and Head of the Microwave and Optical Engineering Group. His research spans microwave devices, antennas, integrated optics and optical-fiber technologies, with extensive activity in research coordination, experimental facilities and technology transfer.
